Lahore (PR) — The 46th Independence Day of Pakistan was observed with dignity under the auspices of the Pakistan Freelance Journalists Association. The celebrations began with Association President Iqbal Yousufi affixing a commemorative badge—bearing a quote of Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah—to the waistcoat of renowned Pakistan Movement activist, eminent researcher, scholar, writer, and veteran journalist Maulana Muhammad Ismail Zabeeh.

On this occasion, Maulana Ismail Zabeeh shared with the Association’s delegation his memories of companionship with the Founder of Pakistan and significant moments of the Pakistan Movement. He also briefly spoke about his published works, literary contributions, and journalistic endeavours, which the participants listened to with great interest.

Continuing the Independence Day spirit, members of the Association later presented the Independence Day badge to several senior journalists associated with national newspapers, paying tribute to their services.

Mumtaz Ahmad Khan Awarded Quaid-i-Azam Badge

The Pakistan Freelance Journalists Association (PFJA) celebrated Independence Day with a special ceremony honoring senior journalist Mumtaz Ahmad Khan, who played an active role in the Pakistan Movement.

In recognition of his lifelong contributions to journalism and the struggle for independence, PFJA President Iqbal Ahmad Yousufi presented him with the “Quaid-i-Azam Badge.”

Mumtaz Ahmad Khan worked closely with Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah during his student years and early career as a journalist.

The event was attended by several notable freelance journalists, including Dr. Masoom Abidi, Allama Anwar Zahoori, Professor Mazhar Ali Adeeb, and Imtiaz Rasheed Qureshi, who joined in prayers for the prosperity and progress of Pakistan.

In his concluding remarks, Mumtaz Ahmad Khan shared heartfelt memories of his association with Quaid-i-Azam, recalling moments that inspired him to pursue a life dedicated to truth and integrity in journalism.

LAHORE (PR)-President Pakistan Freelance Journalists Association, Iqbal Yousufi conducted the traditional Independence Day celebrations by pinning Quaid-i-Azam badge on Pakistan Movement veteran, former Senator and a senior journalist Mumtaz Ahmed Khan in respect of his meritorious service rendered to the nation as a close associate of the late Quaid-i-Azam.

On this auspicious occasion Dr. Masoom Abidi, Allama Anwar Zahoori, Prof Mazhar Ali Adeeb, Imtiaz Rashid Qureshi and other freelance journalists were also present. After badge-pinning ceremony prayers were also offered for the stability, prosperity and solidarity of Pakistan.

FREELANCE Journalists Association will give Quaid-i-Azam Badge to a senior journalist who participated in the Pakistan Movement. A committee has been formed in this regard to decide on the journalist who should get the badge. Dr. Masoom Abidi is heading the committee. -PR

PFJA condemns action against journalist

NOV. 3: Pakistan Freelance Journalists Association has strongly condemned the illegal punishment meted out to a Journalist Mr. Mehmood to harass him. The president of the association Mr. Iqbal Yousufi has described this act of the political agent criminal. of South Waziristan as criminal.

He described the conduct of the political agent as collusive in respect to the ex-minister and notorious smuggler allegedly involved in heroin case. Mr. Yousufi has also sent telegram to the President & Prime Minister in which he has requested them to take notice of the serious criminal conduct of the political agent and has sought his dismissal & immediate release of patriotic & dutiful Journalist.

Lashari's appointment as info secy hailed

LAHORE: The Pakistan Freelance Journalists Association (PFJA) Wednesday hailed the posting of Kamran Lashari as the Punjab information secretary. In a press release, the Association said Lashari always took interest in journalists' problems. PFJA President Iqbal Yousafi said Lashari was an active and effective officer.

کو لمبو میں سارک ممالک کی صحافی تنظیموں کے نمائندوں کا اجلاس، سری لنکا کی صدر نے صدارت کی

 سارک ممالک کی صحافی تنظیموں کا خصوصی اجلاس سری لنکا کے دارالحکومت کولمبو میں ہوا ۔ میزبان تنظیم سری لنکا یونین آف جرنلسٹس تھی۔ تقریب کا افتتاح سری لنکا کی صدر نے کیا جبکہ دوسرے اجلاس کا افتتاح سری لنکا کے وزیر اطلاعات نے کیا

اجلاس میں بھارت ، سری لنکا، پاکستان،  بنگلہ دیش سمیت علاقے کے تمام ممالک کی تنظیموں کے 21 نمائندوں نے شرکت کی۔ نمائندوں نے اختلافات " علاقے میں انسانی حقوق اور پریس کی آزادی پر اپنے اپنے ممالک کی رپورٹیں دیں ۔ نیپال اور پاکستان کے نمائندوں نے بھارت کی جانب سے بعض امور میں مداخلت کا الزام لگایا۔ پاکستانی مندوب اور پی ایف جے اے کے صدر اقبال یوسفی نے اپنی تقریر میں بھارت پر الزام عائد کیا کہ وہ پاکستانی صحافیوں کو ویزا دینے کے بعد اپنے ملک میں ہراساں کرتا ہے اور ان کے لئے انتظامیہ اور ایجنسیاں طرح طرح کی مشکلات پیدا کرتی ہیں۔ انہوں نے گذشتہ سال پاکستانی ماہوار رسالے کے ایڈیٹر محمد اظہر مسعود کی بھارت میں گرفتار کر لینے اور ان کو تشدد کا نشانہ بنانے کے افسوسناک واقعہ کی مثال دیتے ہوئے کہا کہ وہ صحافی ابھی تک لاپتہ ہے۔ مسٹر یو سفی نے کہا جبکہ پاکستان میں بھارت سے آئے ہوئے کسی بھی صحافی کو تشدد کا نشانہ بنانا تو درکنار اس کو کسی نے پو چھا تک نہیں۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ کوئی صحافی بھارتی سفارتخانے کو مشکوک دکھائی دیتا ہے تو ان کو ویزا ہی جاری نہ کیا جائے۔ اس طرح ویزا جاری کر کے شکار کی طرح جال میں پھنسانا بدترین سفارتی غنڈہ گردی ہے۔ اقبال یوسفی کے اس احتجاج پے اجلاس میں شریک بھارت کے چھ نمائندوں نے اس مسلے پر اپنی حکومت سے بات کرنے کی یقین دہانی کرائی۔ مسٹر اقبال یو سفی کے اس مطالبے کی سارک ممالک کے تمام نمائندوں نے بھرپور حمایت کی۔ سارک ممالک کی صحافی تنظیموں کے نمائندوں کا اجلاس کولمبو میں پانچ دن جاری رہا۔ اجلاس میں صحافیوں کی بین الاقوامی تنظیم انٹرنیشنل فیڈریشن آف جرنمٹس کے جنرل سیکرٹری مسٹر ایڈن وائٹ ، سنگاپور کی تنظیم اور ایف ای ایس کے نمائندوں نے بھی شرکت کی۔ اجلاس کے دوران انسانی حقوق ، علاقائی مسائل اور صحافت پر مقامی حالات کے اثرات پر سری لنکا کے معروف دانشوروں نے خصوصی لیکچرز بھی دیئے۔

his contribution in Pakistan Movement. Speaking on the occasion, ZA Sureli
revealed when they brought out a procession in London in favour of
Pakistan, the English people, observing their enthusiasm, said they would
succeed one day in establishing their own homeland. He advised the youth
especially the journalists to work for the solidarity of the country
following the foot steps of Quaid-i-Azam.

PFJA urges SC to take suo moto notice of Lal Masjid, Karachi killings, AQ Khan detention and Bugti case

Lahore – The Pakistan Freelance Journalists Association (PFJA) has urged the Supreme Court of Pakistan to take suo moto action over the Lal Masjid incident, Karachi killings, the detention of Dr. A.Q. Khan, and the killing of Akbar Bugti.

Addressing a function held to celebrate the reinstatement of the Chief Justice of Pakistan, PFJA President Iqbal Yousafi said the solidarity and integrity of the country were at stake. He lauded the media’s role during the judicial crisis, noting that it faced immense pressure yet played a commendable and historic role.

لاہور – پاکستان فری لانس جرنلسٹس ایسوسی ایشن (پی ایف جے اے) نے سپریم کورٹ آف پاکستان سے مطالبہ کیا ہے کہ وہ لال مسجد واقعہ، کراچی ہلاکتوں، ڈاکٹر عبدالقدیر خان کی نظربندی اور اکبر بگٹی کے قتل پر ازخود نوٹس لے۔

چیف جسٹس آف پاکستان کی بحالی کے موقع پر منعقدہ تقریب سے خطاب کرتے ہوئے  پی ایف جے اے کے صدر اقبال یوسفی نے کہا کہ ملک کی سالمیت اور یکجہتی خطرے میں ہے۔ انہوں نے عدالتی بحران کے دوران میڈیا کے کردار کو سراہا اور کہا کہ میڈیا نے دباؤ کے باوجود شاندار اور قابلِ فخر کردار ادا کیا۔

PFJA concerned about press freedom scenario (International Press Freedom Day

The Pakistan Freelance Journalists Association (PFJA) has voiced deep concern over the deteriorating press freedom situation in the country.

In a meeting chaired by PFJA President Iqbal Yousafi, the association strongly condemned the increasing incidents of attacks on press properties, terming them an attempt to harass journalists and silence the media. The meeting also deplored the growing violence against working journalists.

“At least 60 journalists were injured or subjected to violence last year while performing their duties, while another 18 were arrested in the line of duty,” Yousafi said.

The PFJA further demanded the immediate arrest of the perpetrators involved in the killing of six journalists who were shot dead during the past year.

Senior journalists Mazhar Ali Adeeb and Khalid Latif also attended the meeting.

پاکستان میں صحافیوں کی آزادی صحافت پر پی ایف جے اے کا اظہار تشویش

پاکستان فری لانس جرنلسٹس ایسوسی ایشن (پی ایف جے اے) نے ملک میں آزادی صحافت کی بگڑتی ہوئی صورتحال پر گہری تشویش کا اظہار کیا ہے۔

ایسوسی ایشن کے اجلاس کی صدارت صدر پی ایف جے اے اقبال یوسفی نے کی، جس میں صحافتی اداروں پر بڑھتے ہوئے حملوں کی مذمت کی گئی۔ اجلاس میں کہا گیا کہ یہ اقدامات صحافیوں کو ہراساں کرنے اور میڈیا کو دبانے کی کوشش ہیں۔ اجلاس نے صحافیوں کے خلاف بڑھتی ہوئی پرتشدد کارروائیوں پر بھی افسوس ظاہر کیا۔

اقبال یوسفی نے کہا کہ ’’گزشتہ سال کم از کم 60 صحافی اپنے فرائض کی انجام دہی کے دوران زخمی یا تشدد کا شکار ہوئے جبکہ مزید 18 صحافیوں کو گرفتار کیا گیا۔‘‘

پی ایف جے اے نے مزید مطالبہ کیا کہ ایک سال کے دوران قتل ہونے والے 6 صحافیوں کے قاتلوں کو فوری طور پر گرفتار کیا جائے۔

PFJA Stages Protest Rally Against Killing of Journalist Hayatullah Khan

Lahore – The Pakistan Freelance Journalists Association (PFJA) staged a protest rally against the brutal killing of Hayatullah Khan, a journalist from North Waziristan Agency.

The protesters, led by PFJA President Iqbal Yousufi, appealed to the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court to take suo moto notice of the incident. Chanting slogans against the government, they demanded that the administration immediately arrest the kidnappers and killers of the tribal journalist.

PFJA condemns PAPRA

Lahore: Pakistan Freelance Journalists Association (PFJA) President Iqbal Yousufi has condemned the establishment of the Press and Publications Authority (PAPRA). He said institutions like NEPRA and OGRA were also made for the betterment of the people, but they had miserably failed to deliver, and the same would happen with PAPRA as well.

He said in developed countries, the rules and regulations of Print Media were made by the Press Council, which met international standards acceptable to all. Yousufi stated that the Information Minister had prepared the draft for the Press Council, in which the PFJA also presented some proposals, but for some reasons, it could not be implemented.

He added that efforts will be continued to oppose the establishment of PAPRA, and the PFJA will fully support the All Pakistan Newspapers Society (APNS) and the Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors (CPNE) in this regard.

Journalist body lauds CJP, flays attck on Geo Tv

The Pakistan Freelance Journalists Association (PFJA) have pledged to offer every sacrifice for the freedom of Press and independence of judiciary. The PFJA also congratulated Cheif Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhary for his firm stand, saying that he was on right path. If the reference had any thing true, the CJ could have been black mailed, it said. PFJA President Iqbal Yousufi blasted government for attack on Geo TV and The News offices. He said the hidden hands also tried to attack on another TV channel but they failed to do so.The PFJA President said the CJ was the first man who gave the relief to the people that was why the whole nation was with him.

100 newsmen killed in 1994

More than 100 journalists were killed in 1994, the wrost year on record for
media staff killed while on duty.
Killings in Algeria & Rawanda dominated a year in which genocide, civil
war & social conflict claimed over 100 lives of journalists & media
workers, says survey report of Pakistan Freelance Journalists Association
(PFJA). In Russia journalists were killed by Mafia.
Even in Pakistan Muhammad Salahuddin, a well-know journalist & editor of
a weekly was barbically murdered in the day light due to his independent
thinking & writings, Rana Javed of The News was murdered by policemen
recently. Journalists in Germany, France, United States, Japan, Belgium &
England however were safe in all respect.

PFJA asks govt to prove charges against newsmen

Lahore - A team of journalists would go on hunger strike soon if the
government did not withdraw or prove the charges it levelled against the
journalists.
The decision to this effect was taken at the meeting of the Pakistan
Freelance Journalists Association (PFJA) held on Monday, with its President
Iqbal Yousafi in the chair.
It said the government has not come up with proofs substantaiting the
charges it levelled against newsmen and further demanded of it to either
prove the charges or apologise to both the print and the electronic media
within 48 hours after which a team of journalists would go on hunger
strike.
The speakers at the meeting condemned the government for levelling
baseless allegations against the journalist community to curb the Press
freedom which is hardly awarded.

PFJA invites applications for IPC

Pakistan Freelance Journalists Association (PFJA) has invited applications
from its members for International Press Card (IPC). The IPC will be valid
for two years and be useful in 122 countries. Interested members may send
their applications to secretary coordination, PO Box 740, GPO, Lahore.

Rana Javed's death condoled

A condolence meeting of Pakistan Freelance Journalists Association (PFJA)
was held Wednesday with Iqbal Yousafi, President of Pakistan Freelance
Journalists Association (PFJA) in the chair. The meeting condoled the death
of news editor of The News, Rana Javed and young journalist Wasim Qazi.
Both the journalist fell victim to the vagaries of police and drug pushers.
The meeting demanded condign punishment for the culprits. The association
also lamented that anti-social elements and proclaimed offenders are
allowed to play havoc with the peaceful citizens, while respectable members
of the society are harassed, maltreated and even murdered by those whose
duty it is to protect them.

Pakistan Freelance Journalists Association (PFJA) pay tributes to Muhammad Shafi (Meem Sheen)

Lahore: Dec 7, The Pakistan Freelance Journalists Association (PFJA) has
expressed deep sorrow and grief over the sad demise of the renowned
journalist Mian Muhammad Shafi (Meem Sheen). The condolence meeting of the
association, convened on Tuesday with Iqbal Yousafi in the chair, paid rich
tribute to the services rendered by the departed soul for journalism.
Fazulur Rehman, Naeem Qureshi, Khalid Pervaiz Malik and Naveed Bukhari
speaking on the occasion said that Mian Muhammad Shafi (Meem Sheen) was an
important organ of the Pakistan's freedom movement and that his services
both for Pakistan and journalism will be hard to forget. Prominent among
the rest who also spoke on the occasion were Rehman Zulfi, Zafar Ali Raja,
Tahir Lahori, Ibrahim Tahir, Imtiaz Rashid Qureshi, Afaq Ali Khan, Idrees
Urmani, Kamal Rizvi, Ahsan Bashir and Habibur Rehman Urmani. Later Fateha
war offered for the departed soul.

Mir Shakil will protect the rights of Newsmen

Mir Shakil-ur-Rehman newly-elected president of APNS will serve his community effectively and better than before, Iqbal Yousafi, President Pakistan Freelance Journalists Association (PFJA) hoped in a felicitation message on his election as President of APNS on behalf of PFJA. Freelance Journalists condole Kashmiri's death

Pakistan Freelance Journalists Association (PFJA) has condoled the death of
Zaheer Kashmiri and the mother of Tahir Majeed.
In a condolence meeting on Tuesday, Freelance Journalists said that
death of Zaheer Kashmiri was a great national loss. The meeting paid
glowing tributes to the services of the journalist. Fateha was also offered
for the departed soul at the end of the meeting.

PFJA to celebrate Eid frugally

Lahore: 12 March, The Pakistan Freelance Journalists Association (PFJA) has
decided to celebrate the the fourthcoming Eid in a simple way in the
perspective of atrocities and human rights violations in Kashmir and
Bosina.
The President PFJA Mr. Iqbal Yousafi has appealed to the journalist
community to observe Eid in simple way.
He also urged the people to donate more money to beleaguered Muslims of
Bosina and Kashmir.

Journalist injured: accused arrest demanded

Lahore: The President of the Pakistan Freelance Journalists Association (PFJA), Iqbal Yousufi, along with other PFJA office-bearers, visited the hospital to inquire after the health of journalist Saifullah Khalid, who sustained injuries in a firing incident by unidentified miscreants.

Speaking on the occasion, Yousufi demanded that the Governor and Chief Minister of Punjab immediately arrest the perpetrators. He also strongly criticized the government for its continued failure to ensure the safety and security of journalists.

Call to withdraw duty on import of news-print

Pakistan Freelance Journalists Association (PFJA) has demanded of the
government to immediately withdraw the duty imposed on the import of
news-print.
In a press statement, Iqbal Yousafi, President PFJA, said this unjust
decision of the government will create great crisis for the news-print
industry. He said prices of books in syllabus will also increase.
The existing prices of newspapers are already out of common man's reach.
If duty on import of newsprint is increased the prices of newspapers will
also go up.

PFJA Condemns Illegal Punishment of Journalist in South Waziristan

Nov 3: The Pakistan Freelance Journalists Association (PFJA) has strongly condemned the illegal punishment inflicted upon journalist Mehmood, terming it an attempt to harass him.

PFJA President Iqbal Yousufi described the act in South Waziristan as criminal and blamed the political agent for colluding with a former minister and a notorious smuggler allegedly involved in a heroin case.

Mr. Yousufi said he had also sent telegrams to the President and Prime Minister, urging them to take notice of the serious misconduct of the political agent and to ensure his dismissal for targeting a dutiful journalist.

Freelance Journalists named as members Anti-corruption body

The Advisor to the Chief Minister for Anti-Corruption has nominated several freelance journalists as members of the Anti-Corruption Committee.

Those nominated include Naeem Qureshi, Khalid Pervaiz Malik (Sheikhupura), Mazhar Ali Adeeb (Lahore), Kamal Rizvi (Rawalpindi/Islamabad), Afsar Khan (Multan), and Kaukab Khan Zaar (Lahore).

The Pakistan Freelance Journalists Association (PFJA) hailed the decision and expressed hope that the nominated journalists would work tirelessly to combat corruption.

PFJA Condemns Killing of Journalists in Wana, Criticizes Govt’s Response

The Pakistan Freelance Journalists Association (PFJA) has expressed deep grief and concern over the killing of two journalists by snipers in Wana.

PFJA President Iqbal Yousufi strongly condemned the government for its lopsided and inadequate response to the tragedy.

In a meeting, the association observed that the meagre amount of compensation announced for the families of the slain journalists reflected the low priority the government attaches to the lives of an important section of society.

PFJA Welcomes Appointment of Kamran Lashari as Punjab Information Secretary

LAHORE: The Pakistan Freelance Journalists Association (PFJA) on Wednesday welcomed the appointment of Kamran Lashari as Punjab Information Secretary.

In a press release, the association stated that Lashari has always shown keen interest in addressing the problems of journalists.

PFJA President Iqbal Yousufi praised him as an “active and effective officer” and expressed hope that his tenure would help strengthen ties between the government and the media community.

PFJA Condoles with Usman Yousaf on Wife’s Demise

The Pakistan Freelance Journalists Association (PFJA) President Iqbal Yousufi, along with office-bearers and members of the association, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of the wife of Daily Jang News Editor Usman Yousaf.

It was the night between the 18th and 19th of January when I awoke to the sudden cries of grieving women. Startled, I sat upright. Someone delivered the crushing news: “Iqbal has passed away.”

The revelation shattered me completely. Although death is life’s most undeniable reality, I could hardly fathom it. He had seemed perfectly fine—healthy, active, and having only recently crossed the age of sixty.

A little later, when I laid eyes upon his lifeless body—tragically covered in blood—I stood speechless and immobilized. Doubts plagued my mind: could this have been some other tragedy? Soon, however, a doctor’s verdict was conveyed to me: Iqbal had been silently suffering from a stomach ulcer, which had suddenly ruptured, claiming his life.

Iqbal had a lifelong habit of concealing his ailments—a stoic family trait we seem to have inherited from our ancestors. From the somber preparations for his funeral to the finality of his burial, every stage unfolded before my eyes while I remained anchored in a profound state of shock.

His sudden departure plunged me and our entire family into deep grief. Every message of condolence from friends and relatives served only to reopen the wound.

He was the dearest of us all to our parents and the wider family. Among his peers, he was immensely popular—forever concerned for his colleagues from his student days and his fellow journalists. He cared little for his own struggles, yet remained perpetually restless to solve the hardships of others.

Shakil Adilzada, the esteemed editor of Sab Rang, had been his classmate at Urdu College. Whenever Sab Rang faced publication delays, Iqbal would grow anxious, continuously calling Shakil, pestering him out of sheer, brotherly affection.

If a journalist ever faced adversity, Iqbal would not rest until a resolution was found. He spent the vast majority of his earnings alleviating the burdens of others. Numerous journalists were able to secure plots or homes through his tireless advocacy—yet he himself lived in a rented house until his dying day.

Recently, in an article published in Nawa-i-Waqt, he had offered, on behalf of the Pakistan Freelance Journalists Association (PFJA), to assume full financial responsibility for supporting the family of a martyred journalist from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Iqbal personally bore the operational expenses of the PFJA. His compassion extended far beyond his professional circle; whenever he learned of human suffering, he became deeply distressed and mobilized every possible resource to help. For the stranded Pakistanis in Bangladesh and the victims of the devastating Kashmir earthquake, Iqbal actively spearheaded fundraising campaigns for the Nawa-i-Waqt relief fund.

Iqbal Yousufi was my brother—our beloved.

Yet, none of us could truly comprehend the physical pain he carried within. Not even his closest companions, with whom he spent his days, suspected a thing, for he always appeared cheerful and full of vibrant life in their presence.

When the hour of his departure finally arrived, only a few souls were by his side. Though hundreds ultimately accompanied him to his final resting place, those who stood nearest in his final moments were the simple, ordinary people—his neighbors—whose everyday problems he quietly solved, far beyond the call of his professional duties.

Everyone wept, praising his boundless kindness and mourning the irreversible loss of a man who lived entirely for others.
